In February 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pearland Chinese Association (PCA) was unable to hold its traditional in-person Spring Festival Gala. To maintain the festive spirit while ensuring community safety, PCA organized a virtual Lunar New Year celebration featuring short video performances submitted by community members.
Alongside the online showcase, PCA conducted a program evaluation to recognize outstanding performances. Participants submitted creative short videos including traditional dances, music performances, skits, and other cultural presentations. PCA volunteers and community members carefully reviewed each submission, evaluating them based on creativity, presentation, cultural significance, and overall impact.
The online format allowed community members to safely enjoy the festival from home while celebrating Chinese culture and the Lunar New Year. Performers received constructive feedback and recognition for their talent and dedication, and the program evaluation added an interactive and engaging element to the event.
This initiative successfully preserved the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year during challenging times and encouraged active community participation. PCA thanks all performers, volunteers, and participants for making the 2021 Online Lunar New Year Short Video Show a meaningful and memorable event.
