Pearland has lost a remarkable and deeply respected leader who helped shape the city into the vibrant community it is today. Mayor Emeritus Tom Reid passed away peacefully on June 24, 2023, at the age of 97, surrounded by his loving family.

Mayor Reid devoted 44 years of his life to serving the City of Pearland. His vision, leadership, and unwavering passion for community development transformed Pearland from a small town into one of the fastest-growing and most diverse cities in Texas. He always believed Pearland was a “special place,” and he dedicated his lifetime to helping it reach its full potential.

Mayor Reid was also a long-time friend of the Asian community. He attended the 2018 and 2019 Pearland Lunar New Year Galas, showing his support for cultural diversity, inclusion, and the values of unity within our community.

Members of the Pearland Chinese Association attended Mayor Reid’s memorial service to honor and remember a leader who had such a profound impact on the city and its residents.
